The Adventures of Prince Achmed #MovieReview

Film 148 in the “1001 films to see before you die” challenge is 1926’s “The Adventures of Prince Achmed”. Or as it was known in Germany at the time “Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed”. This animated film is about an magician who has to rescue his daughter from some evil villains. At least that is what Wikipedia tells us. What I say before I fell asleep was a bunch of people performing circus acts while a horse flew around everywhere. I have no idea what was meant to be happening. There was no plot from what I saw. Everything is in German and not subtitled which makes things harder to try and figure out what’s happening. And the background music is so quiet and boring that it was making me want to fall asleep. It was just boring and dull. The only thing I liked about the film was the animation. For a film that is nearly 90 years old, the animation is good to look at, if you can figure out what’s what. Fun Fact of the Film – All the silhouette techniques were created entirely from intricate paper and lead cutouts. Overall, I wouldn’t not recommend this film unless you really want to see what animation looked like in the mid 1920’s. If you have seen this film then let me know what you thought of it in the comments. Here is what I had to say while watching 1926’s “The Adventures of Prince Achmed”

Why do I feel like this music belongs in a Mario game?
There was some liquid pole dancing
Are they introducing us to the characters?
I can’t make out what the text says
My eyes just went weird
Is this meant to be a scarecrow?
Why is he casting images of animals?
Now he’s drawn a dinosaur that turns into a horse
Did he just shove a harp up a horse’s ass?
Meanwhile outside The Taj Mahal
This gift is so heavy we need two elephants to carry it
That is some Cirque du Soleil performing out of those three
Is this a travelling circus?
That horse can fly!?!?!
If this is meant to be in India then why do they have Pakistan flags scattered everywhere?
I really wish I knew what was happening
