Dog Star Man; Prelude #MovieReview

Film 105 in the “1001 Films to See Before You Die” challenge is 1962’s “Dog Star Man”. And I decided to watch the prelude episode as this is split into three parts. And if you ever wondered what it would be like to be on a really bad acid while completely drunk whilst driving at 100mph down the motorway then this is the film for you! This short 25 minute film is basically a series of very fast flashing images that are very hard to make out what they are and will make your head spin so much you’ll have a headache and did I mention the very fast flashing images? DON’T WATCH THIS IF YOU HAVE EPILEPSY!!!! I can’t really say much about it so I will leave it at this. If you have seen this film, and managed to survive viewing it, then let me know what you thought of it in the comments. Here is what I said while watching 1962’s “Dog Star Man”, the prelude.

Film – Prelude: Dog Star Man
Year – 1962
Director – Stan Brakhage
Staring – Jane Brakhage, Stan Brakhage
IMDb Rating – 6.9/10
My Rating – SHIT
Length – 25 min
Genre – Short, Drama
It’s a horrible version of the Psycho theme
I can’t tell if there’s meant to be red light on my TV screen or what it is
I can’t even make anything out
Still can’t make anything out
I think I saw lights… I think
And now it’s the moon… I think
I feel like I’m on a really bad acid trip
This music isn’t helping me figure out what’s happening
I think I’m looking at a close up look at skin
Are those clouds?
I heard a key opening a door!
Will I miss anything if I fast forward?
Or even switching off?
I don’t think it will.
This is a complete mess
THE END
