Well… Here we go again. I figured that I might as well do a blog about what I do for a living.
What do I do for a job? I don’t have one. To keep me occupied, I am a photographer who works with unsigned/unknown local bands who all play in pubs and working man’s clubs in Leeds. Does it pay? In the five plus years I’ve done this, I have made hardly anything. When I was working wrestling show back in 2010/2011, I made £15 for doing the photos and being a member of ring crew until the company went into debt and I was out of a job. I also work as a radio DJ at my university as a volunteer for RamAir, Saturdays at 10am. Don’t try listening Saturday, I’m not the air at the moment as I am on a summer break. I used to work in a mail order business packing people packages until my university told me to quit that so I could focus more on my coursework. Clearly that hasn’t helped at all. Before that, I worked as a volunteer in a charity shop called Oxfam from October 2009 to September 2010. The reason for leaving them was so I could do the mail order job and the wrestling stuff.
In the five years I’ve done photography, I have worked in pubs, social centres, working men’s clubs, town halls, big music venues in Leeds (Empire (which is closed down), The Well (Now a Restaurant) and The Cockpit (Still there)), parks, charity festivals raising money for Help for Heroes, colleges, universities, a sh*tty rugby stadium in Dewsbury, a warehouse for the Exopolitics Expo in Liverpool, countrysides, the middle of nowhere, a friend’s back garden and most recently in a recording studio in Morley.
